Saadani National Park
Description: One of Tanzania’s newest national parks, Saadani bills itself as one of the few spots in the country where you can enjoy the beach and watch wildlife at the same time. It’s easily accessible from Dar es Salaam as an overnight excursion and is a good choice if you don’t have time to explore further afield. To the south of the reserve is the Wami River, where you’ll probably see hippos, crocodiles and many birds, including lesser flamingos, fish eagles, hamerkops, kingfishers and bee-eaters. Wildlife-watching can’t be compared with that in the better-known national parks, animal numbers are slowly increasing now that poaching is being brought under control. You’ll also likely see giraffes, and elephant spottings are increasingly common. With more effort, you may see hartebeests and even lions, although these are more difficult to spot. The birding is also wonderful.

Accommodations
“It would be impossible to describe our complete satisfaction in a short survey. I can’t promise A2T is the best because I have not done another safari, but I can promise there are none better. It was far beyond our expectations – the weather, the animals, the lodging and most especially, our guide. Alex was professional, friendly, accommodating and extremely knowledgeable. He has the eyes of an eagle – he spotted game with his eyes that we could not see with 8X binoculars! He is truly amazing and he guided us through a once in a life time experience we will never forget. We have friends who have been on safaris and never seen a leopard or a cheetah. Thanks to Alex, we saw six leopards and thirteen cheetahs! We will recommend A2T to all our friends and should we return to Africa, we would not even think of another company. A2T is the best!”
