Udzungwa National Park

Description: Udzungwa is the largest and most biodiverse of a chain of a dozen large forest-swathed mountains that rise majestically in Eastern Tanzania.

Known collectively as the Eastern Arc Mountains, it has also been dubbed the African Galapagos for its treasure-trove of endemic plants and animals, most familiarly the delicate African violet.  It is a magnet for hikers, with its excellent network of forest trails.

Ornithologists are attracted by the avian wealth of more than 400 species. Of six primate species recorded, the Iringa red colobus and Sanje Crested Mangabey (discovered in 1979) both occur nowhere else in the world.

Undoubtedly, more treasures are yet to be uncovered as scientific exploration continues.

“Access 2 Tanzania was absolutely amazing from day 1 of planning to our bittersweet “see you later” wave to Tanzania on our plane ride home. Casey helped my husband and I plan and execute our dream honeymoon. All we came to Access 2 Tanzania with was a rough idea of dates, a budget, and a dream of going on a safari – Casey took it from there! He worked with us to plan a great itinerary and handled every logistical detail from booking us puddle jumper flights out of the middle of the Serengeti to making sure our favorite soft drinks were stocked in our safari vehicle. Even after our itinerary was finalized, he checked in with us multiple times to answer any and every question we had and to make sure we were all set with visas, vaccinations, etc. We had the best experience ever and I would highly recommend them to anyone planning a trip to East Africa!”
